Our mental well-being can be affected by big events or daily stressors that overwhelm us.
As a clinical psychologist, I can help you to understand and manage your stress and emotions when you feel overwhelmed and give you the tools to cope with life problems.
Dr Jenna Hammington
Clinical Psychologist
I completed my Doctor of Clinical Psychology at Massey University, Wellington. I am registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists.
Since training as a clinical psychologist, I have had the opportunity to work with adults in different settings including community mental health and inpatient services. Some of these services were in London where I lived and worked for over two years. After returning to New Zealand, I worked for the District Health Board before entering private practice.
I have almost 10 years’ experience in helping individuals with a broad range of issues. Working with a range of people and problems has helped me to identify the areas that I am most passionate about. I have a particular interest in:
-
Sleep
-
Work stress and work-life balance
-
Anxiety problems (including generalized anxiety, panic, specific phobias, and social anxiety)
-
Obsessive-compulsive disorders
If you’re not sure whether the problem you are having fits into one of these areas, feel free to get in touch and we can discuss whether I am the right person to help you.
My Approach
"...a different therapy must be constructed for each patient because each has a unique story"
- Irvin D. Yalom
With training and experience in the main evidence-based psychotherapies, I work flexibly and collaboratively, tailoring therapy to the needs of each person I see. Importantly, I provide a safe and non-judgmental space to talk.
I generally provide short-term, goal-directed therapy to help individuals make positive changes in their life. Various skills can be learned and fostered to help you become your own therapist so that you can maintain and build on the progress long after our work together has ended.

To ensure I am maintaining and developing my skills and knowledge, I regularly attend professional development opportunities and engage in self-directed learning. In addition, I have regular supervision to ensure I am providing my clients with the best possible service.

I received a psychological assessment and report from Jenna for anxiety and depression, and was thoroughly blown away by the extra mile that Jenna went to in order to provide me with not only a totally professional and transparent experience, but a caring one all round.

Jenna was amazing. She understood how best to take on my problems and has taught me how to continue my therapy alone as my sessions have come to an end. I appreciate the help I received greatly.
